The following information about each firearm is recorded in most of the registers: Number: a running number allocated by the Society Description and maker of firearm Form of action Size of bore Choke or cylinder: details of any special choke or cylinder Cost (to buy in): the figures are recorded in code. The code used is MAKE PROFIT with M=1, A=2 etc. There can be more than one set of numbers - usually a basic price and the cost of any additional features requested by the purchaser Selling (price): price paid by the customer. Name of purchaser Ticket number: number of the receipt issued Bill number: number of bill sent to customer Date of purchase Name of person purchased from Ticket number Date purchased by Society Order number Remarks: any other information that the salesperson wished to record about the purchase

Additional information:

The Society bought and sold secondhand firearms. Sales staff kept a register of all such firearms. This series of volumes acted both as a record of its stock of secondhand firearms but also as a register of their sales, which was required by law. Staff allocated each firearm a unique number and recorded these numbers in this series of volumes. Alongside each number, they described the firearm and recorded details of its purchase by the Society, and then, on its sale, added the date of purchase and details of the purchaser.

System of arrangement: Each register is divided into sections for guns, rifles and revolvers. Within each section, entries are in chronological order by the date of purchase of the firearm by the Society.
