Biography:
John Fraser was the second son of Hugh Fraser and Jane Bunting. In 1884, at the age of twenty five, he was assumed as a partner into the family business, Fraser Sons & Co, to work alongside his elder brother, James Arthur, and the trustees of his father, Hugh Fraser. In 1894, the co-partnership was dissolved and the two brothers, together with their younger brother, Hugh, commenced in business as sole partners. He withdrew from active participation in the business in November 1905. In 1909, Fraser Sons & Co was registered as a private company and John, together with James Arthur and Hugh, were appointed directors. John remained a non-executive director. From 1909, he lived in the south of England. He was reluctant to agree to an extension of the Buchanan Street premises and, in April 1929, he sold his share in the building and his investment in the company to his nephew, Hugh.
