Hide & Co Ltd, Department store retailers, Kingston-upon-Thames was established in 1924 as a private limited company. In 1939 Hide & Co Ltd was bought by Great Northern & Southern Stores and Wright Brothers Ltd equally, who already owned H L Reid Ltd, Cardiff. Hide & Co Ltd then bought these three companies, and ran them as subsidiaries. Hide & Co Ltd continued to expand, buying independent department stores, as well as developing their Barnett- Hutton chain of ladieswear shops.

Hide & Co Ltd was acquired in 1965 by Tootals, it was primarily for their chain of ladieswear shops, which were combined with Tootal's other shop units to form the Van Allan chain of ladieswear stores. When Tootals sold the Hide & Co Ltd group of department stores to House of Fraser in 1975, the ladieswear shops which originally comprised part of the company were not included. Hide& Co Ltd was put into liquidation in 1988.
