In 1920 Guy & Smith was incorporated as a limited liability company trading as Guy & Smith Ltd. The store at that time comprised costume, dress goods and silks, ladies' and children's outfitters, millinery and furnishing departments.
In 1929, Guy & Smith Ltd took over the shop of Whitlam Smith at 17 Victoria Street, which was pulled down and rebuilt to fit in with the rest of their frontage. In the following years further premises were acquired in Grimsby such as Listers' china shop and Holder Brothers' piano shop.
In 1969, Guy & Smith Ltd were taken over by House of Fraser Ltd department store retailers, Glasgow, Scotland, and in 1970 the name of the company was changed to Binns (Grimsby) Ltd .
