On 30 October 1850, Joseph Guy opened his drapery store in North Saint Mary's Gate, Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, England. By 1871, the shop was situated at 19 Victoria Street, Grimsby, and trading as Guy & Smith, silk mercers and general drapers.
