In May 1936, Arnott & Co Ltd, drapers, was acquired by Fraser Sons & Co Ltd, drapers, of Glasgow. Fraser Sons & Co Ltd wound the company up and, in June 1936, incorporated a new company, also called Arnott & Co Ltd. The store, in Jamaica Street, was immediately modernised, with the second and third floors being opened up and an elevator and new staircase installed. The first floor was enlarged and fitted out with quick serve counters, and a bargain basement introduced. In February 1938, the company was amalgamated with Robert Simpson & Sons Ltd, a Glasgow drapers and dressmakers, and was renamed Arnott-Simpson Ltd.
