Scope and content:

The ledgers contain accounts for individual funerals. Details recorded include date, name, address and age of deceased, date of death, location of grave and details and prices of the goods and services provided for the funeral including the coffin, vehicle, shroud, refreshments, stationery and attendance. There is an index to the names of the deceased at the front of each volume.

Additional information:

Initially, each funeral account was recorded on a new page in the ledger. However, when the end of the volume was reached, the bookkeeper returned to the beginning and recorded a new funeral account beneath the account already there. He continued to the end of the volume, and then returned to the beginning again. This process was repeated until the volume was full. The result is several different accounts on each page.
