Scope and content:
Illustrated price lists of all the goods sold by the Society, arranged by department. The volumes also include lists of the patrons, directors and officers of the Society, the objects, constitution and general rules and regulations of the Society, details of the store, information on ordering, lists and indexes of the firms with which the Society had made beneficial arrangements, discount tables and advertisements.
Additional information:
The Society regularly published and posted to its members a general price list of all its goods. In 1872, the price list was published quarterly and could be obtained at the store or posted on application to the secretary after payment of postage. Alternatively, members could pay an annual subscription and give their names and addresses to the chief cashier in the store, or post them to the secretary, to have a copy posted to them each quarter immediately after publication. From January 1879, the price lists were published half yearly instead of quarterly. By 1908, the price list was issued yearly. By 1925, it stopped being issued yearly and, instead, was only published from time to time. In 1939, because of the short supply of merchandise during the second world war, the production of the general price list was discontinued.
