Between 20 and 29 October 1982, House of Fraser ran an operation to contact its shareholders by telephone in order to secure the maximum support for the board at the forthcoming extraordinary general meeting on 4 November 1982. This meeting had been requisitioned by Lonrho plc which had proposed two resolutions: firstly that Harrods should be de-merged from House of Fraser and secondly, that Professor Roland Smith should be removed as director.
