Company history

Stuart Norris Ltd, Hove, Department store retailer, started life as a small drapers in Church Road in the nineteenth century. A local draper called Driscoll bought the store in 1920 and expanded the business, gradually taking over the other stores on Chuch Road. Mr Driscoll hiumself died in 1954, at which point the business was bought by Stuart Golfar, who incoporated the company as a private limited company and changed its name to Stuart Norris Ltd, a combination of his and his wife 's names. In 1957 the company was bought by Hide & Co Ltd and run as a subsidiary. Hide & Co Ltd itself was bought by House of Fraser Plc in 1975
