Company history

William Henderson established his drapery business at 24 Church Street, Liverpool, England, in 1829. The premises were enlarged and rebuilt by the acquisition of adjoining property. In 1859, William Henderson took his sons, William and John, into partnership and the shop continued trading under the name of William Henderson & Sons. By 1863, the shop was situated at 13-15 Church Street, Liverpool, and traded as silk mercers and linen drapers, but also offered a funeral service. In 1889, William Henderson junior, retired, and when John Henderson died in 1910 he was succeeded by his two sons William and Edward. By 1910, the shop had expanded further, occupying 9-15 Church Street. In 1924, the business was converted into a private limited company under the name of William Henderson & Sons Ltd.
