John Barker (Construction and Development) Ltd was incorporated on 29 January 1965 as a subsidiary of John Barker & Co Ltd, department store retailers, of London, to take over the company's building and decorating work. On 26 January 1974, the company was transferred to House of Fraser Ltd, department store retailers, of Glasgow, which had acquired John Barker & Co Ltd in 1957. On 31 January 1975, the assets, liabilities and trading rights of John Barker (Construction & Development) Ltd were transferred to Army & Navy Stores Ltd, another subsidiary of House of Fraser Ltd. In September 1993, the company name was changed to John Barker Construction Ltd. In 1996, it went into liquidation and, in 2005, was dissolved.
