The company was established as John Falconer & Co in 1828. In February 1929, the company was acquired by the Scottish Drapery Corporation Ltd, a management holding company, of Edinburgh, and a new limited liability company, John Falconer & Co Ltd, was incorporated to carry on the business. In September 1952, the Scottish Drapery Corporation Ltd was acquired by House of Fraser Ltd, department store retailers, of Glasgow. John Falconer & Co Ltd went into voluntary liquidation in 1953. The store was henceforth operated as the Aberdeen branch of House of Fraser Ltd.
