In November 1928, the company was acquired by the Scottish Drapery Corporation Ltd, a management holding company, of Edinburgh. In September 1952, the Corporation and its subsidiaries were acquired by House of Fraser Ltd, department store retailers, of Glasgow. J & R Allan Ltd went into voluntary liquidation in 1953.
