Company history

In 1970 House of Fraser acquiried T Baird & Son Ltd, one of two loss-making Scottish companies owned by Selincourt & Sons Ltd of London. The acquisition was part of the board's strategy to enlarge the Group's representation in the towns of west Scotland. With seventeen shops in towns such as Airdrie, Motherwell, Hamilton and Shotts, in the new town of East Kilbride and the Glasgow housing scheme at Drumchapel, Bairds was an ideal purchase.
