Company history

The business was established in about 1889 and was originally a small shop selling lace, ribbons and haberdashery. From 1906, the store was at 15 North Bridge, Edinburgh. It expanded and became one of the largest department stores in Edinburgh. In 1926, the business, by then called Patrick Thomson Ltd, was acquired by the Scottish Drapery Corporation Ltd, a management holding company, of Edinburgh. In September 1952, the Scottish Drapery Corporation Ltd was acquired by House of Fraser Ltd, department store retailers, of Glasgow. The store continued to trade as Patrick Thomson until the 1970s.
