The day books contain details of individual orders for funerals. Details recorded include date, name and address or person paying for funeral, name and age of deceased, details of hearse, coffin, shroud, stationery and dues and, where relevant, the initials of the branch office which took the order.
Additional information:
The details of all orders taken by the branch offices were copied from each branch office's funeral day books into these head office funeral day books.
Each week, financial details were posted from the funeral day books to the funeral ledgers (ref: FRAS 923). The page number of the corresponding entry in the ledger is recorded beside each entry in the day book.
