James Daly & Co was established in about 1884 to continue the drapery business of James Daly & Co and Niven. At the same time, the store moved from Argyle Street to 60-62 Trongate, Glasgow, Scotland.

By 1894, the store had moved again, to 199 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow.

At the end of 1934, the business was acquired by the Scottish Drapery Corporation Ltd, a management holding company, of Edinburgh, Scotland. The Corporation incorporated a new limited liability company, Daly & Sons Ltd, to continue the business.
