Company history

On 22 May 1894, Thomas White & Co was incorporated as a limited liability company, Thomas White & Co Ltd, to carry out the business of military outfitters, camp furnishers, furniture dealers and manufacturers, drapers and furnishing and general warehousemen. The company's registered offices were at 23 Union Street, Aldershot, England. In 1964, these changed to 105 Victoria Street, Westminster, England.

The company received royal warrants as military outfitters and upholsterers to King George V in 1901 and again in 1911. By the 1930s, the company traded from two sites in Aldershot and one, which was largely rebuilt in 1939, at the corner of Lynchford Road and Camp Road in Farnborough, Hampshire, England. In 1961, the company was acquired by Army & Navy Stores Ltd, department store retailers, of London, England. The Farnborough store and the Union Street store in Aldershot were sold, and in 1964, the remaining Aldershot store was extended and modernised. In 1973, Army & Navy Stores Ltd, together with Thomas White & Co Ltd, was acquired by House of Fraser Ltd, department store retailers, of Glasgow, Scotland.

The company ceased to trade in January 1974 and was liquidated in 1978.
